Happy Monday, blog. Thought I'd just kick off the week by moving the page forward...um, did anyone see the new Star Trek yet?

Pete, your post below provided some hilarious entertainment late on Friday night over mac n' cheese, and glass after glass of sobering water. Also, I think it may have made its way into my dreams that night.

Comments:
omg, its really really good. I think especially for the less casual star trek fans. I fought the urge to nitpick over continuity long enough to realize that its still really good and if the hard core nerds can get over a few little things it really does have the potential to really relaunch the series.

I'll go see it again. IMAX, anyone?

Yes, IMAX needs to be done.

It's also really pretty to watch -- there are these ribbons of light that are threaded throughout, and it's just awesome. And, Chris Pine / Zach Quinto are also just really pretty to look at.

IT JUST WASN'T STAR TREK!!!!!!

(fun, but not star trek. That JJ is a bloody populist)

Of course it isn't. Star Trek is long dead now. This at least opens the door a bit though so they can have an excuse to update older stories that worked instead of introducing completely new ones that don't. Kinda James Bond style, it gave everyone an excuse to buy that okay, its the same universe but I don't have to nitpick about whether it is consistent anymore and I can just enjoy where it goes from here.
Personally I'd like to see them take some classic episodes of the original series and do them as a feature, updated and slightly rethunk.
At any rate, I'm into the idea, its just enough an excuse to go off in a slightly different direction and create new story lines and hopefully they won't diverge so much that everything we've already seen and loved feels like, 'just a dream'.

Hey Chaz, I think you should see this: Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film as 'Fun, Watchable'.

Also, I think Imax is overrated. More money and no better than a regular old monster-sized screen.

Matty, seen it and love it.

And I'm all for a reboot. Casino Royale was an amazing reboot and it turned out to be one of the best bond films ever. I was blown away by that and left the cinema like some excited 12 year old.

Didn't get the same from Trek. It's amusing, but it's just not Star Trek. And I'm not talking about continuity issues here, I'm simply talking about the over all tone and feel. It's light-hearted, well executed fun but it's also completely forgettable.

I've been watching the original series of late and, seriously, it was never bettered. Mind you, Wrath of Khan is still a bloody classic.
